Gathering flowers..

Wednesday, August 31, 2011

I'm just popping in with a photo of some of the pretty flowers Isabelle and I picked in the garden for flower pressing. I've been dying to use some pressed flowers on my cards. I can see the signs of autumn creeping into the garden so I thought I better pick a few before they all disappeared! Just a few violas, pansies and individual flowers from hydrangeas. I love how some of them are speckled pink! We'll see how they turn out after pressing.

Isabelle starts 'big school' tomorrow, so we're just relaxing today. We nearly have everything ready, names on books, school uniform ready!! She's so excited and keeps asking "are you sure I'm big enough?". Thankfully the first two weeks they have a shorter day to ease them into the routine. It will be strange not having her around as much but I can focus on some work and we can enjoy some quality time at the weekends.

I'll be back tomorrow with my CASE Study challenge card. See you then! Enjoy your day : )

WMSC62 - banner tag

Saturday, August 27, 2011

This week's sketch (WMSC62) at the Waltzingmouse Sketch Challenge is designed by WMS Design team member Anya Schrier. As you can see I didn't take the sketch too literally, I used each of the rectangles as elements instead.

I did struggle with this one a bit, maybe because I haven't made a tag in a while or maybe because I just wasn't 'in the zone'! We all get those days right?

I used Bitty Banners from Waltzingmouse Stamps to stamp the little banners onto some felt using VM Oasis Green and Pink Grapefruit. The polka dot background is stamped in VersaMagic Aspen Mist using Gingham & Co. The sentiment is from Say it Loud.

The little sentiment 'your big day' is from Half Pint Heroes by Waltzingmouse Stamps. I wrapped some green and white Baker's Twine around the tag. The white buttons I made with Fimo, I just pressed different items into the Fimo to make an impression then I used the cap of a bottle of Glimmer Mist as a circle cutter and poked two holes in the middle. Fun to make, I left these ones white but you could paint them.

I used the colors from this week's challenge at The Play Date Cafe (PDCC96.)

Ok don't forget to check out the creations from the rest of the Mischief Makers and some of the WMS DT at the Waltzingmouse Sketch Challenge. Play along to be in with a chance of winning a stamp set of your choice. Have a great weekend! : )

CASE study #54

Thursday, August 25, 2011

Continuing our anniversary month at CASE Study, this week we want you to show us your signature style. Ok, so I'd describe my style as shabby, pretty and romantic. I like lots of layers, details and embellishments of course!! I'm a sucker for some lace and ribbon and I love to add trinket pins, flowers and cameos. I love distressing and adding some stitching to my cards.

I die cut some cardboard using Spellbinders Labels 18 and stamped one of the labels from Very Vintage Labels No.18 by Waltzingmouse Stamps and embossed in white, I masked the two lines in the middle of the stamp. The sentiment is from Live & Laugh by Hero Arts. The edges are rubbed with white ink and white acrylic paint. The little cameo I made with white Fimo and a silicone mold.

The sentiment on the little tag is from Say it Loud by Waltzingmouse Stamps stamped in Pink Grapefruit. The background paper is from Uncommon by Authentique Papers, I love these papers!!

The paper flowers are from Wild Orchid Crafts and the pearl trinket pin I made. I also added some peach and white seam binding.

Check out the CASE Study Challenge Blog to see what amazing creations the rest of the DT have come up with!

Isabelle's doing much better now. I took her to the doctor's on Monday morning, I just knew it wasn't just a fever caused by a virus, turns out she had a UTI and needed an antibiotic. I was worried sick about her, it's such a relief to see her improving now. She's enjoying the extra pampering : )

The Ribbon Reel - Challenge #9

Monday, August 22, 2011

This week's challenge at The Ribbon Reel Challenge Blog is 'Sugar Plum' - to use the colors Plum/Green/Silver or Grey plus neutrals. Here's the inspiration photo.

Ok, I kinda added a little burgundy in there but I had no violet supplies at all! Apart from the lovely satin pleat ribbon in plum from The Ribbon Reel. I don't really use purples and violets that much.

I added some seam binding, crochet lace (celery) and some silver ribbon all from The Ribbon Reel. The flower is a Prima flower but I took off the centre and added a vintage earring for a richer look.

The sentiment from Hero Arts I stamped using Versamark and heat embossed in silver for some added shimmer. Don't forget to check out the lovely creations from the rest of the DT at The Ribbon Reel Challenge Blog and play along to be in with a chance of winning some goodies from The Ribbon Reel.

Lots to do this week but I'm preoccupied with Isabelle, she's a bit under the weather. She has had a high temperature over the weekend, it's been up and down, she's off her food, just nibbling and not sleeping too well. I'm not sure if it's a virus, she has no other symptoms, I'll have to bring her to the doc tomorrow if she doesn't improve. I always get stressed out when she's sick, it breaks my heart to see her unwell. Hoping she's a bit better tomorrow. : (

WMSC61 and Girly and Gutsy

Saturday, August 20, 2011

Good Morning! We have two wonderful sketches for you today at the Waltzingmouse Sketch Challenge, well one sketch two versions. This week you have the option of making a card or a layout. I went with the card, I'm not that comfortable with layouts! This sketch is open to interpretation, I took some liberties with it! : ) Visit the Waltzingmouse Sketch Challenge blog to see the sketch for the layout. The sketches were designed by the talented Sarah Martina Parker this week.

I also used this week's Tuesday Trigger from Moxie Fab World - Girly and Gutsy. I'm certainly girly but not often that gutsy, so I thought I'd give this one a go! It's such a striking photo. The bold black lines hit me straight away and WOW that rug, that certainly is gutsy! I love that it's teamed with pink, touches of sparkle and a zing of almost a golden chartreuse. One inspiring photo!

That bold pattern in the rug reminded me of one of the fab motif stamps in the Victorian Frippery set by Waltzingmouse Stamps, so I did a little repeat stamping in black on some white card to make my background paper. Turned out pretty bold alright!

I used some pink pearlescent card for the top half of the card and I embossed it using a herringbone embossing folder to create some reflection and shimmer.

I used one of my favorite labels from Very Vintage Labels No.18 from Waltzingmouse Stamps stamped using Memento Pear Tart. The sentiment is from Say it Loud. I stamped the lady silhouette from Cameo Creations and cut her out, I attempted Claire's pearl technique but I think I need a little more practice.

Ok, check out the Waltzingmouse Sketch Challenge blog to see what amazing creations the rest of the team have come up with! Don't forget to play along to be in with a chance of winning a stamp set of your choice! Have a wonderful weekend folks! : )

The Rose of Tralee Festival is on this weekend in my hometown, it's a kind of personality contest for young ladies from all over the world! There's a parade with floats, lots of things happening in the town, fairground, circus..... etc. Check out the website if you want to know more. Hopefully we'll pop into Tralee, Isabelle was a little under the weather yesterday so I'll see how she is.

CASE study #53 - CASEing Chupa

Thursday, August 18, 2011

This week at CASE Study we are CASEing the one and only Chupa (Iwona Palamountain). It wasn't easy to pick just one of Chupa's cards, she makes so many amazing cards. So I decided to visit my favorites folder and pick one of Chupa's earlier cards. Here's the card I CASEd.

I just love the pink and red color combo, Chupa balanced it perfectly here. I love the fabulous red stamped pattern, the red ribbon, the lace and gorgeous flower. So I CASEd all these elements in my card, I just made my version a little bit more shabby.

I used the gorgeous border from Victorian Frippery by Waltzingmouse Stamps to stamp the borders in red. The sentiment is from Hero Arts Live and Laugh. I used some pretty Webster's bloomers across the card and teamed it with a red seam binding bow.

The pink rose is from Wild Orchid Crafts and the pearl trinket pin I made. I hope I didn't copy this one too much! I loved the card so much I wanted to keep a lot of the elements!

Check out the CASE Study challenge blog to see which of Chupa's cards the rest of the DT chose to CASE. I know they'll be amazing! Have a great day! : )

Sweet yellows...

Wednesday, August 17, 2011

I managed to get a card done just for fun today. I've been having a thing for yellow recently so when I saw the color palette at CR84FN Color Challenge this week I just had to make a card! Here's the color palette CR84FN36. I just love kraft with yellow, it works so well.

I used some of the gorgeous papers from Victoria Gardens by Echo Park, I love these papers, I've never gone through a pad so fast! The friend sentiment is from Hero Arts Live and Laugh stamped in Coffee archival ink, I love those large sentiments! The dearest text is from Cameo to Go by Waltzingmouse Stamps stamped in lemon yellow. The banner tag is from Bitty Banners by Waltzingmouse Stamps.

The cameo I made from white Fimo and an Etsy mold, I picked out the yellow from the twill ribbon (from The Ribbon Reel) and painted with acrylic paints. You wouldn't think a yellow cameo would work!!

The lace I had in my stash. I also added a little feather, lemon seam binding bow and some yellow and white Baker's Twine from The Ribbon Reel.

Ok, I'll be back tomorrow with my card for the CASE Study Challenge! See you then!! : ) Have a great day!

Cardmaking & Papercraft Mag (UK) Issue 95

Monday, August 15, 2011

Just popping in with a couple of cards I have in the current issue of Cardmaking & Papercraft magazine (UK). In this issue they asked me to do the recycling feature - to recycle plastic bags and use them on my cards. Quite a challenge but fun! Here they are in the mag.

I took a few photos before I sent them off. The first one is a fun party hat card, I made a cute little pom pom from two different colored plastic bags and I plaited some red plastic to make the bow!

For the second card I used a simple ribbon embroidery technique with white plastic to make the daisy flowers, the centers are quilled. I plaited some blue plastic to make the twine for the label!

For the last card I made a big flower using the Tattered Florals die and white plastic bags, it turned out really nice, really light, I added a brad through the centre to keep everything together!

SO recycling with plastic bags turned out to be fun and stretched my creativity a bit! The plaiting was my favorite technique... go dig out some plastic bags and give it a try! : )

Vintage Halloween with Cicely!

Saturday, August 13, 2011

Good morning! It's that time again, time for another new sketch at the Waltzingmouse Sketch Challenge (WMSC60). This week's sketch is designed by the lovely Kelly Schirmer. I love this sketch.

It's the first chance I've had to play with my Halloween stamps. I just love Cicely at Halloween by Waltzingmouse Stamps, she's perfect for coloring, even though I'm painfully slow at it!!

I colored her with acrylic paints on a separate piece of card and cut her out, I did the same with the pumpkin (twice for a little added dimension). I used a glue pen on her hat, cloak and shoes and sprinkled with black glitter, leftover from last Halloween! The stars are from Midnight Feast by Waltzingmouse Stamps, stamped in black ink at the top and Antique Linen at the bottom. Oh I added a little swirl coming from her wand from the Flourishes - Scallops and Dots set.

The label I stamped using Very Vintage Labels No.18 by Waltzingmouse Stamps in VersaMagic Persimmon and Pink Grapefruit. The sentiment is from Cicely at Halloween.

I'm pretty happy with how she turned out, she really came to life!! and I had fun! Pop over to the Waltzingmouse Sketch Challenge to see what the rest of the Mischief Makers and WMS DT came up with! Don't forget to play along to be in with a chance of winning a stamp set of your choice. Have a great weekend! : )

CASE study #52 - CASEing our players

Thursday, August 11, 2011

Hello! Thanks to everyone who took part in the CASE Study Anniversary Blog Hop, you made it very special for us! This week at CASE Study we are CASEing our players!! It was hard to pick just one but I had a recent card of one of our players in my favorites folder. My chosen player is Karin Akesdotter (AKA Peppermintpatty), here's her fab card!

I love Karin's work, I'm always inspired by something when I visit her blog. I fell in love with this sweet star banner card of hers. I just adore the way she topped the stars with sweet flowers and pearls. The polka dots and fab twine complete with bows are wonderful. I love the layout of this card so I chose to CASE that, I reduced the number of stars and added some shabby flowers.

I traced the shape of a chipboard star I had to make three stars from card and stamped them using Text-It from Waltzingmouse Stamps in Memento Danube Blue ink. I rubbed the edges with some white acrylic paint. I punched a hole in the top of each star to thread it on my twine.

I embossed some green paper with the woodgrain embossing folder and rubbed some paint over bits of it to highlight some details. The sentiment is from Fancy Phrases by Waltzingmouse Stamps.

The flowers are from Wild Orchid Crafts. I did rub the tops with some white acrylic paint... I was in a painty mood!! : )

Check out the CASE Study blog to see what my teamies came up with and whose cards they CASEd! Enjoy the rest of your week!! It's wet and windy here, getting darker in the evening... starting to feel Autumnal!!

Ribbon Reel Challenge 8

Monday, August 8, 2011

Hello! I hope you had a great weekend, I spent some quality time with my family. We went to a little village called Dingle in Co.Kerry yesterday, we visited Dingle Oceanworld (an aquarium), the fish were amazing, they even had sharks and penguins! Isabelle loved it and got to bring home a cuddly penguin (the stuffed variety from the gift shop!!). The sun even came out and we got to enjoy some ice cream on the marina. On the way back home we took the scenic route (via Conor Pass) and stopped off at a lake (cirque) which involved a bit of rock climbing to get there! (Niall's idea!) So, a fun weekend! On to my card for the Ribbon Reel Challenge.

I love this stamp set You're Lovely by Waltzingmouse Stamps, this is the first chance I've had to use it!! That dress form is so gorgeous, here I just stamped it onto some patterned paper from Victoria Gardens by Echo Park. The label is stamped using Very Vintage Labels No.18 in Pear Tart ink.

The fabulous Silky Crush Parrot Green Ribbon is from The Ribbon Reel, it's such a gorgeous shade of green! The seam binding is Pearl Aqua also from The Ribbon Reel. The sentiment is from Big Day-Additions by Waltzingmouse Stamps.

I added a little bit of fab Velvet Ric Rac at the top of the card. The flowers I used in the cluster are from Wild Orchid Crafts. I also added a little bow of Twisted Burlap cord. Oh, here's this week's inspiration photo!

Ok, pop over to The Ribbon Reel Challenge Blog to see the amazing creations from the rest of the DT. Play along to be in with a chance of winning some fabulous goodies from The Ribbon Reel. Have a great day!! I've loads to do this week, better make a list, I'm sure to forget something!!
