CASE Study #126

Thursday, January 31, 2013

Hello! It's our final week with the talented Amber Kemp-Gerstel as our muse at CASE Study, check out her fab card this week, I was inspired by the whole photo, props n'all!

I picked out the colors from the photo, CASEd the basic layout and created a similar patterned background using the In Stitches embossing folder.

The beautiful sticker sentiment is from Fancy Sticker Sentiments - Love from SRM Stickers. The touches of bling are from Classy Corners Elegance by Nina Brackett for Want2Scrap. I love snipping these apart and using elements for a card!

I was in the mood for making a flower and I'm so glad I did because I love how this one turned out and it was a bit of an accident! I started out using my fav flower die, the Tattered Florals die from Sizzix, I used the two smaller dies for the centre petals. I was going to use the larger die from this set for the outer petals but the size difference was two great so I decided to try Spellbinders Rose Creations dies, I used the largest flower die for the outer petals.

But it was the cardstock I used that created the 'happy' accident, I used Core'dinations Gemstones Pearlescent Finish cardstock and as I was shaping the petals, I don't know if it was my rough treatment or the edges I inked with VersaMagic but the cardstock started to split apart, but then I teased them apart to make more layers, they were a slightly lighter tone and made the flower look more realistic AND gave a lovely shabby rose result! I was happy : ) I will be experimenting again with some more Core'dinations cardstock to see if it happens again. If it works out I'll post a tutorial, I haven't forgotten about the Anemone tutorial either, it's top of my list! The leaf die I used is also from the Spellbinders Rose Creations die set. The Marigold Twine and Gold Shimmer Twine are from SRM Stickers.

Don't forget to visit the CASE Study blog and check out all the amazing creations from my teammates!

Cardmaking & Papercraft Magazine February Issue (114)

Monday, January 28, 2013

I'm so excited to share some of the cards I have in this fabulous February issue of Cardmaking & Papercraft Magazine. I did two features in this issue - Knowhow Stamping (featuring some beautiful Waltzingmouse Stamps!) and Quick Makes (one of my cards is the main cover card too!).

In the Knowhow Stamping section I made 5 vintage style Mother's Day cards and a matching tag. All the stamps are from Waltzingmouse Stamps, I used Camellia, Roses in Bloom, Vintage Garden Seed Packet, Appleblossom Seed Packet and Spring Baskets.

I used some gorgeous pretty papers from Trimcraft First Edition - Blank Canvas. All the images I colored using Distress Markers and I also used Antique Linen Distress Ink on the edges of all the cards.

Here's one of the layouts in the mag, the second layout (not shown here) gives step-by-step photo instructions on how to make the first card and tag in my post. I had 4 cards in the Quick Makes section, here's just a couple of them.

I used some gorgeous bright and vibrant papers on these cards from the Rosarian Collection by Prima. The stamps are from Waltzingmouse Stamps (Seasons of Love - Tags). Oh and here's the second card and it's the main cover card too! I was so delighted!!

The papers are from the same collection and the sentiment stamp is from Spring Baskets by Waltzingmouse Stamps. For lots more ideas and inspiration pick up the February issue of Cardmaking and Papercraft Magazine.

Sweet Baby Girl

Thursday, January 24, 2013

Scroll down for my CASE Study card. My stash of baby cards is getting a bit low since we've had a few births in my extended family recently. So I whipped up a vintage style, pastel baby card. I had some gorgeous chipboards and papers from The Little Bo Peep Collection by Crate Paper that I've been dying to use.

I love this sweet vintage baby image! I picked out some of the colors in it for the rest of my card. The ornate die cut frame is by Sizzix (Frame Oval, w/Ornate Edges).

I used another chipboard for the sentiment and added some little pearls and Buttercream Twinery Twine from SRM Stickers. I also used some beautiful silk ribbon for the bow.

I also made this with the 10 Different Embellishments Challenge over at Moxie Fab World as part of the celebrations of 75 Creative Card Challenges, a super issue btw!! : )

CASE Study #125

Hello, it's CASE Study time again, I'm gonna keep this brief because I'm a bit under the weather : ( It's our third week with Amber Kemp-Gerstel as our muse, check out her fabulous creation this week.

I love the neutral tones, the corrugated card and heart focal point in Amber's card so I CASEd these elements. I added a few feminine touches to my card.

The sentiment is from Sticker Sentiments - Love by SRM Stickers. I added a little bit of Pink Sorbet Twinery Twine also available from SRM Stickers. The pretty White Scalloped Lace is from Craft Fairy. The top half of the card I embossed using Hexagon Illusion and inked with white ink.

I wish I could crochet and make cute flowers and cool hearts like this one but I can't, I bought this one from Etsy! Don't forget to check out the CASE Study blog and all the fabulous cards from the DT.

SRM Stickers - Think Love

Tuesday, January 22, 2013

I've a card over on the SRM Stickers blog today. I used lots of texture and embellishments on this one, I pleated a strip of felt and stitched using the sewing machine, I love the tactility of felt! The background (some Core'dinations Nostalgia cardstock) I embossed using the Postal embossing folder from Sizzix, then lightly sanded the surface. The gorgeous Guipure Lace from Craft Fairy I distressed with a coffee dye (tutorial here). The lovely swirl of bling is by Nina B Designs - Classy Corners - Elegance from Want2Scrap.

I kept the sentiment simple, so it could be for Valentine's Day or an Anniversary. It's from Sticker Sentiments - Love from SRM Stickers. Flowers are from Wild Orchid Crafts. The Pearl Trinket Pin is from my Etsy shop. For more inspiration pop by the SRM Stickers Blog.

A couple of cards (water blending dye inks)

Monday, January 21, 2013

I've a couple of cards to share today (one's that didn't get picked up for a recent magazine call) using a water blending technique and dye inks. It's super easy. I stamped the houndstooth background (from Heirloom Patterns by Waltzingmouse Stamps) using a mix of Memento Danube Blue and Bahama blue and then just misted with water, I allowed it to bleed and let a few drops run to achieve the watercolor effect. I blotted any excess water with a paper towel.

I die-cut the tag using the Sizzix Tags Scalloped Combo #2 die and the sentiment is from Compact Sentiments Part 2 by Waltzingmouse Stamps. The Twinery Midnight Blue Navy & White twine is from SRM Stickers.

The flower I made using the Spiral Blossom One from Spellbinders and some layers of red tissue paper. The leaves I made using this leaf tutorial. I used the same technique to create the background paper for my second card. It really is a fun and easy technique.

I used the Dainty Doilies - Large Set from Waltzingmouse Stamps and a combo of inks - Memento Bahama Blue, Rose Bud and Lemon Yellow (Impress). I stamped all the doilies on a larger piece of card, then misted with water and blotted. Once dry I trimmed to fit my card.

The sentiment is from Compact Sentiments - Part 2 by Waltzingmouse Stamps. I added a few buttons as some extra detailing.

We finally got some snow today, we haven't had any in a couple of years! So Isabelle was really excited. Inspired by The Snowman and the Snowdog animation we made a little snowdog! : )

Waltzingmouse Stamps January 2013 Blog Party

Thursday, January 17, 2013

Love is in the air at Waltzingmouse Stamps! For the first blog waltz of 2013 the theme for your creations is 'Love'. I do believe there is a spot prize or two to be awarded randomly for those who take part! Check out Claire's blog for all the details. ALSO, if you haven't been over to Moxie Fab World yet, pop over there, Waltzingmouse Stamps have the Moxie Fab 'Stamp' of Approval and there's a chance to win some stamp sets there just by leaving a comment! Ok, on to my card!

I used a combo of different stamps, Nordic Spring is one of my all time favorite stamp sets, there are just so many gorgeous elements in it! I stamped the heart from this set using Memento Rose Bud ink. The banner is from the Woodgrain stamp set, stamped using Memento Angel Pink ink, I added some definition by outlining the edges with Spun Sugar Distress Marker. I cut the heart and banner out by hand.

I stamped the woodgrain arrows from the Woodgrain set in VersaMagic TeaLeaves just under the row of sweet little roses. The pretty heart border from Nordic Spring is stamped using Memento Rose Bud. The green and white twine is called Honeydew and is available from SRM Stickers, they stock a great selection of Twinery Twine now (Yay!).

So my card is not that flat and won't fit in a regular envelope, I saw this great video this week by Dawn McVey on how to package cards with oversized embellishments on them. She had some great tips, it's well worth the watch if you like to make dimensional cards. I particularly liked the glassine bag option and I happened to have some to hand as SRM Stickers now stocks them.

I used the 4 3/4"x 6 3/4" sized glassine bag from SRM Stickers and it fit my 4 1/4"x 5 1/2" card nicely.

I cut a 1 3/4"x 2 1/2" strip of matching blue card and scored the middle. I stamped the larger heart from My Heart stamp set from Waltzingmouse Stamps using Rose Bud ink. The sentiment is from the same set.

I folded over the top of the glassine bag and added the tab I just made to the top, covering the front and back. I had some extra long paper clips in my drawer so I popped one of them on to secure the tab.

Very quick and easy. Such a simple way to package your embellished cards, ready to deliver to the recipient! : ) I'm off to check out some of the creations on the blog waltz!

CASE Study #124

Hello! It's our second week with the talented Amber Kemp-Gerstel from Damask Love as our muse at CASE Study. I'm really enjoying the freshness of Amber's designs! Check out her gorgeous creations this week.

I love the color combo, the white space, rounded corners and stamped pattern in Amber's creation, so I CASEd these elements. I bumped up the vibrancy of the colors a bit for my card.

I created the floral background paper by stamping the solid flower and leaves from Petal Party (designed by Nina B Designs) from Penny Black. I used four different colors - VersaMagic Sage and Persimmon, Memento Rose Bud and Impress Lemon Yellow. I found the chalk inks stamped better than the dye inks with these stamps but I used some VersaMark ink before the dye ink to improve the results.

The sentiment sticker is from Sticker Sentiments - Thinking of You by SRM Stickers and the stitching detail sticker is from a cool new set of stickers called Sticker Stitches - Black also by SRM Stickers. The Marigold Twine is also available on the SRM website.

I'm pretty happy with how this one turned out, thanks for the inspiration Amber!! Don't forget to drop by the CASE Study blog and check out the creations from the rest of the DT gals! They are amazing!! I hope you're inspired to play along, whatever your style may be! : ) I'm off to make something for the Waltzingmouse Stamps Blog Party!!

Nina B Designs January 2013 Blog Hop

Tuesday, January 15, 2013

Welcome to the NinaB Designs first team blog hop of 2013! We hope you have had a relaxing holiday break and ready to join us for another year of inspirations and prizes!

For this month's hop, Nina challenged the team to create a project with the LOVE theme, which can be interpreted in many ways: Valentine, Anniversary and Friendship. I decided to go with a Valentine's theme, considering it's the next big card giving holiday! I made two cards, a masculine and a feminine card.

For my feminine card I used some of the cute heart and button stamps from the Sew Lovely Stamp set from The Craft's Meow. I created the background paper by repeat stamping the motifs using Memento Lady Bug and Rose Bud ink. I love a red and pink color combo!

The sentiment stamp is from Nina's retired Sweet Silhouettes Layers of Color stamp set, I couldn't help using it, it was just the right size and I love that font!

The buttons from the Sew Lovely Stamp set from The Craft's Meow made such a great patterned paper I can't wait to try out the other stamps in different colors!

Masculine cards can be tricky so I usually keep them pretty simple but that doesn't mean they have to be boring. Here I created a negative die cut pattern using the heart die from Nina's Spellbinders Home Sweet Home die set.

I used another sentiment from the same retired Sweet Silhouettes Layers of Color stamp set, masking one of the words 'young'. I embossed it in white. I added some foam pads behind the die cut layer for some dimension. Instead of lace I added some natural twine.

Here are the products I used for my cards today (not including the retired Layers of Color set).

The NinaB Designs team is giving away these TWO PRIZE PACKAGES: Prize Package #1 includes Spellbinders Venetian Accents and Motifs:

Prize #2 includes 2 retired sets from Layers of Colors stamps:

Winners will be picked randomly from 2 of the designers' blogs:

Everybody is welcome to comment and be eligible to win. The winners will be announced on  January 22 on Nina's Blog, where you will also find all the relevant info regarding the giveaways. Thanks for joining us today!
